The engineers from Gepida used their expertise to design the bikes in the Pedelec family for long-running, reliable usage. The Pedelec bikes have precise lines and an exclusive feel. Our electric models have three types of systems, the first (brain) and mid-engine versions. For the Pedelec bikes with the first (brain) engine we use the GPDS (Gepida Pedelec Drive System), a high quality system throughout, for the mid-engine version we use the Bosch Professional kit and Shimano STEPS groupset..

WHAT SHOULD YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT GPDS?
Gepida have assembled their bikes utilizing electrical kits produced by other manufacturers for more than a decade. Using our experience from this we developed our own electrical system of assistance, which was given the name GPDS (Gepida Pedelec Drive System). Centered around our new system, immediately a whole product line was born, starting with the Reptila 1100 city model, which was followed by other models in the selection 2011.

The GPDS system integrates the latest technological developments with a comfortable cycling experience in each Gepida electric bike. The highly efficient Li-ion batteries, the three phase front engine and the multifunctional, electronic display unit help make the cycling experience more complete. The electrical system of assistance available as a single unit, - known as GPDS kit – can be installed onto any traditional bike.

General technical features of the GPDS:

ABOUT THE BOSCH ELECTRIC KIT:
The success of the Pedelec bikes encouraged us to continue to widen our range. Therefore in 2012 as an Eastern European manufacturer we first presented our Pedelec bikes equipped with the BOSCH electric mid-engine, which are completely suitable for a more dynamic, sporty, usage.
The main parameters of the system:
  • The nominal voltage of the electric engine is 36V
  • The maximum output of the system is 250W or 350W (until 45km/h)
  • The capacity of the battery is 300Wh or 400 Wh
  • The mass of the battery is 1,99kg
  • With one battery up to 120km
  • The all-in-one display uses CAN-BUS system

Active Line – the harmonious ebike system

With the Active Line, Bosch provides a versatile, custom-made product for modern eBikers. It enables cyclists to travel longer distance and have more mobility in everyday life with a tailwind on demand. The Active Line is ideal for recreational eBikers and shopping trips or the Sunday bike ride with a city or touring ebike.
All components come in a discreet platinum and black and are designed ergonomically. Bosch won this year’s Red Dot award for the product design.
With utmost precision, the new drive concept combines the performance of the Drive Unit with that of the eBiker, generating perfectly metered assistance, with the energy required travelling along in the form of the lightweight, varied PowerPacks. Optionally equipped with a backpedal function, the Active Line guarantees new, unparalleled riding comfort. Intuvia Active is the clever eBike control centre.
Drive Unit Active 
The Drive Unit Active provides perfectly metered assistance up to 25 km/h. It is available in eBikes with hub and derailleur systems. In the latter it is available with an optional backpedal function. The reduced volume results in lower weight of the Drive Unit and a shorter pedal distance, thus increasing the ergonomics. The new arrangement of the gear system provides for optimal integration of the Drive Unit design and increased ground clearance.
The improved drive system with more powerful electronics and a low-vibration motor convinces the rider. The optimised 3-sensor concept take measurement 1,000 times per second with maximum precision for optimal power tuning and a new, unique riding experience.

Performance Line – the sporty ebike system

The Performance Line truly lives up to its name. It is designed for sportive, powerful cycling both when accelerating in hilly terrain and when cycling in lowland country. With the highest precision, its performance is combined with that of the eBiker, generating sportive support that dominates every terrain and every gear. From flat to steep. From moderate to full power. The inner values are complemented by an equally impressive exterior. Design and ergonomics combine a high level of aesthetics and usability.

The Performance Line brings a mass of energy and momentum to the street, to the dirt road, to the pass, to the single trail. The powerful drive system consists of the Drive Unit Crusie (25 km/h) PowerPack 300 or PowerPack 400 and the compact Charger. Intuva Active is the clever eBike control centre.
The strong energy is reflected with the young and sportive design of the anthracite-coloured components – a design awarded with the Red Dot Award for product design. In keeping with its design and performance, a wide range of sports models such as mountain or trekking eBikes can make optimal use of the Performance Line.

Drive Unit – The heart of our eBike system

The Drive Unit is the heart of the system. In the Cruise variant, the central motor provides assistance up to 25 kilometres per hour. If you like it sporty and speedy, the Drive Unit Speed can provide assistance up to 45 kilometres per hour. No matter which drive, the ebiker can rely on his Drive Unit at any stage, from start-up to top speed. It is quiet, operates unobtrusively and provides the decisive “tailwind” at the right moment. Its design is both appealing and highly functional: Water, snow and flying rocks cannot harm the robust Drive Unit. Behind the integrative design is the state-of-the-art high-tech of the motor, gearbox, control electronics and sensors.

PowerPack 300 & PowerPack 400

Looking for reliable, durable energy storage with no memory effect or self-discharge? Our answers are the batteries PowerPack 300 and PowerPack 400. The Battery Management System (abbreviated BMS) protects the batteries against overload, undervoltage and overheating. High-quality Single-Cell Monitoring (SCM) measures the voltage of each individual cell.
PowerPack 300 and PowerPack 400 are lithium-ion batteries with 300 Wh and 400 Wh, respectively. They are available as a rack or frame mounted battery. The latter sits very close to the centre of gravity, which has advantages in manoeuvrability. The battery is mounted on the rack on bikes with low entry. No matter where they are attached – removal and charging of the batteries at the next outlet is simple.

The batteries of the Active Line and Performance Line can even be charged directly on the bike.

 Intuvia – the Bosch ebike cycle computer

How fast am I riding? How far can I still go? And wasn’t this hill steeper before – or is that from the selected level of support? With a glance at the operating computer Intuvia on the handlebar, these questions can be answered for the ebiker faster than they come up. The five available riding modes – Turbo, Sport, Tour, Eco and Off – can be easily and conveniently selected via the separate control unit depending on trip distance and the rider’s wishes and even without it being necessary to take one’s hands off the handlebar. The integrated walk assistance can also be controlled using Intuvia. When it’s time for a break, you simply remove the operating computer to read the tour data at your leisure. And because Intuvia even has a USB port, you can use the modern ebike operating computer to charge your mobile phone or MP3 player even while you are on the go.

GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE BRAND NEW SHIMANO STEPS GROUPSET

STEPS is developed with the idea of system component design. Which means that every individual component works better when the other STEPS components are also integrated in the groupset. STEPS is a pedelec system which engages when a rider is pedaling and cuts out once 25km/h is reached. The STEPS drive unit has a compact design and with weight of 3.2 kg, it is one of the lightest drive units in the market. The compact and lightweight design improves rider control in all conditions and is easier to handle by a wider range of riders. Talking about range, STEPS has three types of power support modes; eco, normal and high. The preferred mode can be selected by an easy to operate switch. The eco mode has a range up to 125km. Normal mode 85km and the high mode 60km*. The STEPS cycling computer gives feedback about the selected mode, battery life, riding speed, distance, etc.

The STEPS battery has a capacity of 418Wh and it takes four hours to completely charge the battery. There are two position types of batteries. A rear carrier type and a down tube type. The battery life is 1.000 cycles. After 1.000 cycles the battery still charges more than 250Wh.
STEPS has the possibility to integrate with SHIMANO’s Di2 internal hub gears. This integration gives STEPS a number of valuable advantages. First the SHIMANO Di2 internal hub gears maintain shifting performance under high chain tension by reducing motor power while shifting. Besides the shifting performance also the total integration is an important feature. All individual components are designed to work as a flawless system. Another advantage is the possibility to connect STEPS to a PC via SHIMANO’s E-tube* project. E-tube gives quick and easy access to the STEPS system for simple installation and set-up options. For instance changing the function of the buttons on the switch, firmware updates and diagnostic analyses.

Special for the STEPS system, SHIMANO made a reinforced chain dedicated for E-bike usage. It is treated with SIL-TEC* coating and for front single gear only. 
SHIMANO’s STEPS components are designed to be ridden all year round. STEPS can be used from 10 degrees Celsius below zero to 50 degrees Celsius. For advice and service SHIMANO has a strong and proven European wide service network.
